Privacy Policy

Overview
Ultra Web Shield (the "Extension") helps protect your browsing by scanning pages for potentially malicious activity and highlighting risky external scripts. We collect only the minimum data necessary to operate and improve the service and we do not sell your data.
Information We Collect
We collect different categories of information depending on how you use the Extension:
- On Install: When the Extension is installed, a random anonymous client identifier is generated. The Extension may also send basic, non-personal technical information such as extension version, browser type (e.g., Chrome/Edge), user agent, language, platform, and timezone. This helps us operate the service, diagnose issues, and prevent abuse.
- During Scans: When a scan is triggered (automatically or manually), the Extension analyzes the current page, including metadata like the page URL and the presence of external scripts, links, and iframes. The Extension produces findings indicating potential risks and may generate a read-only HTML widget/overlay to display results to you. We do not collect form inputs, keystrokes, passwords, or cookie contents.
- Open Tabs Overview (Popup): To show the "Open Tabs Risk Overview" feature, the Extension reads open tab metadata including tab ID, window ID, tab title, URL, and hostname, and matches that data with locally stored per-tab scan results. This is used to display risky tabs and allow you to focus a selected tab.
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect personal identifiers such as your name, email address, or payment information.
- We do not collect your browsing history outside of pages that you actively visit while scans are performed.
- We do not collect your passwords, form data, or cookie contents.
- We do not use fingerprinting or hidden tracking techniques.
How We Use Information
- To provide real-time and on-demand page scanning, show an in-page security widget/overlay with results, and show the popup Open Tabs Risk Overview.
- To improve detection quality, reliability, and performance.
- To maintain abuse prevention and service integrity.
Local Storage
The Extension stores settings (for example, disabling real-time warnings) and per-tab scan results in your browser’s extension storage (for example, keys such as scanResult_<tabId>). This data is stored locally on your device and can be cleared by removing the Extension’s data or uninstalling the Extension.
Permissions
The Extension requests storage, activeTab, and tabs permissions to run scans, display scan results, and provide the Open Tabs Risk Overview (including reading tab title/URL metadata and focusing a selected tab). The Extension also uses content script access on pages you visit (via <all_urls> match patterns) to perform on-page security analysis. Host permissions are used for communication with our API endpoint (https://api.ultra-web-shield-av.com/*).
Data Sharing
We do not sell your data. Open-tabs metadata used for the popup overview is used for extension functionality; scan request data may be processed by our backend solely to evaluate scan requests and return risk assessments. We may share aggregated, non-identifying statistics to improve detection quality.
Data Retention
Install telemetry and minimal technical logs may be retained for operational and security purposes. Scan‑related data is retained only as long as necessary to provide results and maintain service reliability.
Your Choices
- Disable real‑time warnings: You can toggle this setting in the Extension popup.
- Uninstall: You can remove the Extension at any time. The anonymous client identifier stored locally will be deleted when the Extension is uninstalled.
Security
We employ reasonable safeguards to protect data in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Children’s Privacy
The Extension is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated “Last updated” date.
